PCB123 : Benefits Of PCB123

PCB123 Lead Free RoHS-compliant PCBs

WEEE / RoHS-Compliance
PCB123, a division of Sunstone Circuits is committed to supporting our customers in complying with Europe’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), that went into effect on July 1, 2006. We are also interested in supporting customers who are voluntarily eliminating lead from their processes.

We recognize that a successful lead free initiative requires the complete cooperation of the PC fab, assembly, and components manufacturers, along with the raw material suppliers to each. With the understanding there are a variety of processes that could replace those using lead, we have partnered with both an assembly house and an OEM to select the best solution.

We are proud to announce the completion of our immersion silver line as of September 2005. We are currently using High Tg, High Td, and Low CTE RoHS compliant laminate for the manufacturing of our lead-free products. We currently stock 1/2-oz. and 1-oz. in our most popular thickness (0.062"). For all other copper weights and thicknesses, we advise checking with us for material availability at this time.

Lead-Free Boards At No Extra Charge
Unlike other circuit boards shops, we are not adding additional costs on our lead-free boards. It is our belief that our customers should not be charged more to replace their current boards or order new lead-free boards.

No Change to Quote & Order Process
The order process will not change, so make sure and add “Lead-Free” (RoHS Compliant)” to the notes section when placing your order.

Statement Regarding Lead-Free Alternatives

Sunstone Circuits is committed to supporting our customers in complying with Europe’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), which will go into effect on July 1, 2006.

We are intent on being a leader in supporting both the requirements of RoHS, as well as the needs of our customers. We are so committed to this program that we have an on-staff Lead Free Specialist, Tom Hall. Tom can be contacted at 503-829-9108 or e-mailed to thall@sunstone.com if you have any comments, feedback, or questions regarding this very important initiative.

Lead Free Order Process

Thank you for your interest in RoHS compliant boards. Since this is a new process we want to make sure our customers review all of the necessary information before placing their order.

When placing a lead free order, simply choose the "Silver RoHS" option for plate finish. Also, please review the information below before ordering your lead free boards.

Lead Free Material
We use High Tg, High Td, and Low CTE laminate which complies with all RoHS requirements and can withstand several heat cycles. Review our material comparison for more details on lead free materials.

Advisement to Customers
For immersion processes such as silver (our process), electroless Ni/immersion Au, tin and osp, it is recommended by the manufactures of those products that via holes be cleared of soldermask to assure proper plating and good rinsing. Not everyone adheres to this process, but we strongly recommend it.

Here’s how it works: Unless specifically asked by a customer NOT to modify the soldermask via clearances, we will add or adjust the via clearances so they are slightly larger then the drilled hole. This will leave the hole open and the edges of the pad covered. For the customer, this simply means that you do nothing, we will take care of it.

Customers will often already have a soldermask clearance over the whole pad, in this case we will not make any changes.

Sunstone Circuits reserves the right to add a date code and/or a "RoHS Compliant" marking to the board.
